No. Most integrations work on their own through their cloud services. The Hub makes them faster by driving your lights over your local network. It is required for lights with no cloud service at all, such as WLED and DMX.
The Hub is a desktop app for Windows, macOS and Linux. Keep it running on a computer on the same network as your lights. Not sure which Mac you have? Apple Silicon Macs (2020 and later) use the macOS download, older Macs use macOS (Intel).

LAN Control is a switch on each Govee light, in the Govee app. With it on, the Hub drives the light directly. Without it, commands go through the Govee cloud, which is slower.
