In this guide, I will show you how to use Audio Players in ConnectedRoom. Audio players allow you to play goal horns and homerun horns in realtime when your team scores.

3 audio players are available in ConnectedRoom.

Supported Audio Players

Smartphone
App

Play audio in the app. You can then use Bluetooth to stream it to a speaker.

tv
Scoreboards

Use one of your scoreboards to play audio.

Cast
Google Cast

Cast audio to a Cast Ready device like Google Nest or Google Home.

App Audio Player

The app audio player allows you to play audio through the device that runs the app. The app is located at app.connectedroom.io and can be opened on any device with a Web Browser. You could then use Bluetooth to stream the audio to a speaker or soundbar.

How to use app audio player

In the app, you can enable the audio player by opening the audio panel and pressing play. Please note that pressing play won't produce any sound; you need to trigger a test in order to test if it's working. When exiting test mode, audio will be played there if a goal or homerun happen.

  • check_circle

    Open audio panel

  • check_circle

    Press play

  • check_circle

Close the panel and trigger a test

Here are some issues we know and how they can be resolved.

Known issues for App audio player

Phones

When using a phone to run the app, the app should not be put in the background. Web apps have limitations that prevent audio to be played when in the background. We recommend using a Laptop or any other device that will not go to sleep.

iOS: Silent Mode

iOS: Not working all the time

iOS audio stop working after sometime due to limitation that Web apps have on this platform.

We will be working on a Native App for audio players this summer. For now, we recommend using something else than a phone to play audio.

Scoreboard Audio Player

If you have scoreboards that are always up during games, we offer a solution to play the audio through one or more of your scoreboards.

Additional information about Scoreboard Audio Player

info
Interaction requirement

A popup will be displayed asking you to interact with the scoreboard once every refresh. You can just tap/click/press your scoreboard and audio will be enabled.

info
Refresh interval

It may happen that we trigger a refresh on scoreboards sometimes. It is very rare, but we need to do this when we release new feature to update your scoreboard.

Google Cast Audio Player

If you own Cast-Ready devices like Google Nest Mini and other Google devices, you can use the app to cast to these devices. That removes the need of using Bluetooth and provides a direct way to make your device play the audio.

How to use Google Cast audio player

In the app, when you open the audio panel, you should be able to see a Google Cast button. It will only work on Chrome browsers due to Google limiting usage of this library to their proprietary browser. I did not test it, but I also got reports that it doesn't work on Chrome on iOS.

  • check_circle

    Open the audio panel

  • check_circle

Scroll down to Google Cast integration

  • check_circle

Click the Cast button (only on Chrome)

  • check_circle

Select your Google device in the list

  • check_circle

Close the panel and trigger a test

Here are some settings you should check to customize your experience.

Goal Horn Settings

sync
Goal Horn Side

By default, goal horn plays for the home team. You can configure it to play for both teams, your team, away team or home team.

timer
Music Duration

You can limit the duration of music being played. Each horn has a mark where music starts. Limit the maximum length in seconds that will be played past that mark.

music_note
Baseball Homerun Horns

Baseball horns will only play for Homeruns (it might change soon). You need to have music enabled for it to work because all horns contain music.
